PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Announces Overhaul of Selection Committee

Lahore(NNP)Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi unveiled significant changes to the selection committee, signaling a new era for Pakistani cricket. Naqvi revealed that the selection committee will now comprise seven members, including former cricketers Muhammad Yusuf, Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq, along with the head coach, captain, and an analyst.

A notable departure from the previous structure is the absence of a chairman within the selection committee, with Naqvi emphasizing that all seven members will have equal authority and will collectively finalize decisions through consultation. This move aims to foster a more collaborative and inclusive approach to player selection.

Naqvi also provided insights into upcoming decisions regarding coaching staff and team leadership, stating that a panel of full-time coaches will be formed, with input from selectors. The captaincy, including the potential appointment of Shaheen Afridi as captain, will be deliberated upon by the selectors. Additionally, the fate of seasoned cricketer Muhammad Amir will be determined through due process.

Addressing concerns of nepotism or undue influence, Naqvi emphasized a commitment to meritocracy, asserting that selections will be based solely on performance and talent. He assured stakeholders that the PCB will not succumb to external pressures or lobbies in the decision-making process.

Furthermore, Naqvi expressed optimism for the future of Pakistani cricket, highlighting plans to invite standout performers from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to training camps. He affirmed his unwavering support for the selection team, pledging to stand by their decisions regardless of outcomes. Naqvi also stressed the importance of leveraging the experiences of former cricketers to nurture young talent and strengthen the team for future competitions, including the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

In conclusion, Naqvi reaffirmed the PCB’s commitment to assembling a formidable team by incorporating both national and international expertise, with the overarching goal of success in global tournaments like the World Cup.
