Underage bride sold by father for Rs 50 thousand rescued

Hazro (NNP) The Hazro police rescued a 12-year-old girl from child marriage in Khagwani village on Sunday. The girl was sold on Rs 50 thousand by her step father to the “bridegroom” of 60 years of age. Police booked nine persons including brides’ step-father, mother, village lumberdar, bridegroom and his two sons besides his two brothers, two sisters and a nikkah register.

According to the details of the incident, a step father named Tayyub Ali was trying to covertly performing nikkah of his 12 years old daughter Atiya Bibi to 60 years old Naeem in Khagwani village in the Hazro after getting Rs 50 thousand through the middle man. The girl brother made SoS 15 call to police helpline subsequently police barged into a wedding ceremony and rescued the 12-year-old bride. Police spokesman said that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against nine persons including the groom, their close relatives, and against the nikkah registrar and arrested eight of them as the registrar managed to flee afterwards.
