Committee Room No.7A meeting of the Pakistan–Ethiopia Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) was held at Parliament House, Islamabad, under the Chairpersonship of Hon. Mr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra, MNA, Convener of the Group, with H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan. The meeting was attended by Mr. Pullain Baloch, MNA, Ms. Saba Sadiq, MNA, Ms. Shaista Khan, MNA, Ms. Ghazala Anjum, MNA and Mr. Farhan Chishti, MNA.Welcoming the Ambassador, the Honorable Convener warmly welcomed the Honorable Ambassador of Ethiopia and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen its friendly relations with Ethiopia and highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
Recalling his professional engagement in Ethiopia’s textile sector in 2013, he reflected on the country’s impressive economic transformation and industrial development over the years. He noted that Ethiopia’s development experience offered valuable lessons and expressed the hope that both countries would further expand cooperation through parliamentary engagement, trade, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.H.E. Ambassador Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba thanked the Hon. Convener and Members of the Friendship Group for the warm welcome and noted that he had been serving in Pakistan for the past five months.

He identified parliamentary cooperation, trade, education, cultural exchanges, and environmental collaboration as important areas for future engagement between the two countries.

The Ambassador informed Members of the formation of a new parliament in September, and expressed his desire to strengthen institutional linkages between the legislatures of both countries.During the discussion, Members of the Friendship Group highlighted the need to further strengthen parliamentary exchanges and promote greater cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, youth exchanges, women’s empowerment, culture, tourism, and environmental protection.
Members also emphasized the importance of enhancing connectivity, facilitating business-to-business contacts, encouraging scholarship opportunities, and promoting closer interaction between the peoples of both countries.Concluding the meeting, the Hon. Convener thanked H.E., the Ambassador for his constructive engagement and reiterated the commitment of the Pakistan–Ethiopia Parliamentary Friendship Group to promoting stronger parliamentary ties and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Both sides agreed to remain in close contact and to explore practical initiatives aimed at further strengthening the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
