UN Women Pakistan Representative Meets Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly to Promote Gender Equality

Gilgit (NNP) In a significant step towards promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in Gilgit-Baltistan, Lansana Wonneh, the Representative of UN Women Pakistan, met with the Honorable Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Nazir Ahmed Advocate, and key members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus at the Assembly Secretariat today.

The discussions, which involved Kulsoom Farman, President of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, and its members Suraiya Zaman and Dilshad Bano, centered on advancing pro-women legislation and addressing issues affecting women in the region. The meeting aimed to enhance collaboration between the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and UN Women Pakistan.

Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to supporting initiatives and legislation that promote women’s rights. Kulsoom Farman underscored the pivotal role of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus in championing these efforts.

Lansana Wonneh lauded the Assembly’s initiatives and assured UN Women Pakistan’s full support in the fight for gender equality and against gender-based violence. His visit to the GB Assembly session hall and the newly established conference room for the women’s parliamentary caucus highlighted his commitment to empowering women in the region.
