Stakeholders Unite for City-Level Sanitation Policy in Mardan

Mardan: The Freshwater Action Network South Asia (FANSA) – Pakistan Chapter, in collaboration with the Integrated Regional Support Program (IRSP), successfully organized a three-day stakeholders’ workshop in Mardan. The workshop aimed to formulate a comprehensive policy for the safe management of sanitation services in Mardan City.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including government officials, civil society organizations, local government representatives, city council members, media personnel, and relevant associations. The objective was to explore practical approaches and strategies for developing a city-level sanitation policy.

Despite the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s draft sanitation policy being under consideration for a long time, stakeholders emphasized the need for a city-level policy to empower local authorities to plan and implement City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) solutions. There was a unanimous consensus among participants on the urgent need for a robust and inclusive sanitation policy at the city level.

The proposed policy is expected to ensure the safe, sustainable, and equitable management of sanitation services in Mardan, ultimately improving public health and environmental sustainability.
