President Trump briefly greeted Prabowo before delivering his opening remarks. The Gaza Board of Peace was established as a follow-up to the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, endorsed under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803. According to President Trump, the board is envisioned as a temporary authority in Gaza, tasked with coordinating international assistance and mobilising resources for the Palestinian population. In a joint statement, the eight participating Arab and Muslim-majority countries expressed their belief that the initiative could contribute to peace efforts, support a permanent ceasefire, and advance a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
The statement also reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood in line with international law.Meanwhile, several countries, including most European Union member states such as France, as well as China, declined to participate in the initiative, citing their preference for the United Nations to take the lead in restoring stability and peace in Gaza.
