Pakistan women’s netball trials set for June 7 in Karachi

ISLAMABAD, Jun 03:Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF), in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), will conduct one-day open trials for the selection of the national women’s netball team on June 7 at the PSB Coaching Centre, Karachi.

The PNF President Sameen Malik confirmed that the trials will commence at 5:00 pm and said preparations are well underway to ensure their successful conduct. Female netball players from across the country are expected to participate, and instructions have already been issued to all affiliated provincial associations, regional bodies and departmental teams to nominate and facilitate eligible players.

The players selected through these trials will represent Pakistan in the Asian Women’s Netball Championship, scheduled from August 7 to 16 in Hong Kong. The continental event carries added significance this year as it also serves as the Asian qualifying round for the Netball World Cup, to be held in Australia in 2027. According to World Netball (WN) stipulations, only the winner and runner-up of the championship will earn qualification to the game’s marquee competition Down Under.

The championship is expected to feature some of Asia’s leading netball nations, including Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India, Maldives, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Bahrain, Thailand, South Korea and hosts Hong Kong, alongside Pakistan.

The federation expressed optimism that the open trials would help identify talented players and strengthen the national squad ahead of what promises to be a high-stakes continental showdown with a coveted World Cup berth on the line.
