Netherlands to Stage First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses, Celebrating Turkmenistan’s Legendary Equine Heritage
The Kingdom of the Netherlands will host the First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre, marking a historic milestone in the international promotion of one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished horse breeds.The three-day championship will bring together breeders, horse owners, equestrian experts, judges, and enthusiasts from around the world, creating a global platform to celebrate the unique qualities of the Akhal-Teke horse while fostering international cooperation in horse breeding and equestrian culture.Recognized as the national heritage and pride of the Turkmen people, the Akhal-Teke horse has symbolized beauty, elegance, endurance, intelligence, and loyalty for centuries. Through Turkmenistan’s continued efforts to preserve and promote the breed, it has gained worldwide recognition as one of the finest and most admired horse breeds.The inaugural World Championship reflects the growing global appreciation for the Akhal-Teke horse and represents a significant step toward strengthening international collaboration in preserving and promoting its remarkable legacy.A key highlight of the event will be performances by the acclaimed “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group and artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan.
