Iranian Ambassador Engages in Talks on Bilateral Relations with PM Shehbaz

ISLAMBAD (NNP) Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam of Iran visited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, extending a courtesy call to discuss various topics of mutual interest. During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his gratitude towards President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran for his congratulatory message and phone call following Shehbaz’s re-election. He emphasized Pakistan’s deep respect for Iran and the strong, historical ties between the two nations.

Reflecting on past engagements, Shehbaz fondly reminisced about his previous encounters with President Raisi, particularly during the joint inauguration of a border market and an electricity transmission line in May 2023. He also recalled their discussions on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand in 2022.

Highlighting the significance of collaboration, Shehbaz underscored the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, energy, transportation infrastructure, cultural exchanges, counterterrorism efforts, and security cooperation.

Moreover, Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated Iran’s steadfast support regarding the Jammu and Kashmir issue and acknowledged the discussion on the situation in Palestine during the meeting.

In response, Ambassador Moghadam expressed gratitude for the warm reception and provided an overview of the current state of bilateral relations. He reassured Shehbaz of Iran’s commitment to further strengthening ties with Pakistan across all areas of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared objectives and collaborative efforts for the future.
