Islambad:In a stunning turn of events, an accountability court in Islamabad has made a landmark decision, suspending the perpetual arrest warrants of two prominent international business magnates, the sons of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in a series of high-profile cases.
Hassan and Hussain Sharif, scions of the Sharif dynasty, were embroiled in multiple cases, including the Al-Azizia, Flagship, and Avenfield cases, alongside their father Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam, and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar. Despite numerous summonses by the accountability court, the brothers had been declared proclaimed offenders and subjected to perpetual arrest warrants due to their non-appearance.
However, in a dramatic courtroom appearance, Hassan and Hussain Sharif marked their attendance before accountability Judge Javed Rana. The court, in a surprising move, not only suspended their arrest warrants but also demanded a record from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding the pending cases against them.
Amidst a flurry of legal proceedings, the younger Sharifs’ legal counsel urged the court to defer the case to the following day, setting the stage for further developments in this high-stakes legal saga.
Following the court proceedings, Hussain Sharif addressed the media, reflecting on the protracted ordeal of political vendetta they endured since October 12. He expressed dismay over his previous arrest and imprisonment, underscoring the changing dynamics within NAB.
In a poignant moment, Hussain emphasized the fundamental right to a fair trial, echoing sentiments of justice and equality in the legal system.
The return of Hassan and Hussain Sharif to Pakistan after seven years of self-imposed exile marks a significant chapter in their tumultuous journey. Their arrival at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, escorted under tight security to the ancestral home of the Sharif family, Jati Umra, signifies a turning point in the ongoing narrative of political intrigue and legal battles.
