China offers to play ‘constructive role’ in defusing India-Pakistan tensions

China has expressed its willingness to play a “constructive role” in reducing tensions between India and Pakistan following a sharp escalation in hostilities, AFP reports.

Responding to the worsening security situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said Beijing is closely monitoring developments and is prepared to assist in easing regional tensions through diplomatic engagement.

The offer comes amid international concern over cross-border airstrikes, civilian casualties, and rising threats of further conflict in South Asia.

Global leaders, including the UN and the United States, have already called for restraint, dialogue, and the prevention of further military escalation.
