Federal Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry highlights Bahawalpur devision’s potential in maritime trade

Islamabad, April 8, 2025 – Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has emphasized the vast economic potential of Bahawalpur devision through enhanced maritime trade and connectivity.

The minister shared these insights during a meeting with Chaudhry Saud Majeed, former Member of the National Assembly from Bahawalpur and Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab, who visited minister’s office.

The minister said the Bahawalpur division’s agricultural output, industrial contributions, and strategic location suggest it plays a pivotal role in Pakistan’s economic development.

Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry emphasized that improved connectivity between South Punjab and the maritime sector could boost economic activity, create job opportunities, and support industries related to trade and logistics.

“Establishing industrial zones in Bahawalpur devision could attract investment, particularly in sectors reliant on maritime trade, such as manufacturing and logistics”, the federal minister suggested.

The discussion focused on leveraging Bahawalpur’s strategic position for industrial development, employment generation, and diversification of the economy. Minister Junaid Anwar highlighted the role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in boosting regional trade networks and attracting investments in manufacturing and logistics sectors.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of federal-local collaboration to address developmental challenges. Saud Majeed underscored the need for infrastructure upgrades and highlighted Bahawalpur’s potential in promoting sports and youth engagement.

The meeting concluded with mutual commitments to advancing sustainable development initiatives that align with Pakistan’s broader economic goals while strengthening the maritime sector as a driver of progress.
