PNRA and RURA Sign MoU on Nuclear Safety and Radiation ProtectionIslamabad,

PRESS RELEASE 3 June 2026: The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) and the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in nuclear safety and radiation protection,

strengthening bilateral collaboration between the two regulatory bodies.A RURA delegation led by Mr. Claude Nkusi, Deputy Director General, visited PNRA Headquarters from 1–3 June 2026. During the visit, discussions were held on nuclear and radiation safety, regulatory infrastructure development, capacity building, and human resource development.

The delegation also visited laboratories and facilities of PNRA and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).The MoU, titled “Regulatory Cooperation and Exchange of Information in the Field of Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection,” was signed by Mr. Zia Hussain Shah, Chairman PNRA, and Mr. Claude Nkusi, Deputy Director General RURA. The signing ceremony was attended by the High Commissioner of Rwanda in Islamabad and senior PNRA officials.The agreement provides a framework for cooperation, information exchange, and capacity building in areas of mutual interest. Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the MoU and exploring future opportunities for collaboration to further strengthen regulatory capabilities and enhance nuclear safety and radiation protection.

.PNRA remains committed to strengthening nuclear safety and radiation protection through effective regulation, international cooperation, and continuous capacity building. The MoU with RURA reflects this commitment and will further enhance cooperation between the two regulatory bodies.
