Pakistan, Indonesia Discuss Strengthening Defence Ties and Regional Security

Indonesian Defence Minister Lt Gen (retd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin on Monday called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where the two sides discussed regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.According to an official statement, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional and global security dynamics, and the exploration of new avenues to enhance defence ties between Pakistan and Indonesia.Both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening institutional linkages, expanding training collaboration and promoting defence industrial cooperation. The discussions also covered measures to advance joint training exercises, capacity-building initiatives and the exchange of expertise across various defence sectors.The visiting Indonesian minister lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the ongoing fight against terrorism. He expressed Indonesia’s desire to further expand defence cooperation with Pakistan in multiple domains.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to building a strong and enduring defence partnership with Indonesia, saying the relationship was based on shared values, mutual respect and a convergence of strategic interests.The meeting also identified opportunities to deepen cooperation in defence manufacturing, research and development, and multilateral security engagement. Both sides agreed to continue dialogue to further strengthen institutional and operational cooperation.
