New Grant project initiated with UNDP in Merged Districts, KP

Islamabad, 18 December 2025 — The Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, held a signing ceremony to mark the launch of a new project, “The Project for Development of Public Service Infrastructure in Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” The project aims to strengthen the institutional capacity and service delivery of the first-ever elected local government systems in the Merged Districts, supporting the Tehsil Local Governments (TLGs) provide essential services and promote accountable, community-focused governance.

 

With a contribution of 518 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 3.5 million), the project will support improved functioning of 19 TLGs across the eight Merged Districts, supporting local administrations to deliver essential services through small-scale infrastructural schemes. The initiative embodies an inclusive, evidence-based approach, working directly with TLGs to co-design and implement micro-level development projects based on emerging local needs. This approach strengthens administrative performance, coordination, and responsiveness while promoting accountability and fostering community engagement.
