Muzaffarabad() In a significant step towards advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Independent State of Jammu and Kashmir, a high-level delegation from UNICEF, led by Deputy Country Director Dr. Anusa Kabur, convened with Azad Kashmir’s Finance Minister, Abdul Majid Khan, in Muzaffarabad.
The meeting, attended by key officials including Secretary of Food Azad Kashmir, Sohail Azam, and Chief Planning and Monitoring, Joshua Kakere, focused on crucial issues such as poverty alleviation, health, education, and access to clean drinking water. Finance Minister Abdul Majid Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving the SDGs, emphasizing their role in ensuring peace, prosperity, and a better future for all citizens.
Expressing gratitude for UNICEF’s steadfast support, Minister Khan highlighted the organization’s pivotal role in various development projects, including post-earthquake reconstruction assistance and provision of technical expertise. He praised UNICEF’s contributions in vital sectors such as health, nutrition, education, and child protection, underscoring their partnership as integral to Azad Kashmir’s progress.
The meeting also saw appreciation for UNICEF’s initiatives, particularly the Social Policy Work Plan aimed at enhancing Performance-Based Budgeting (PBB). The collaborative efforts between UNICEF and the government of Azad Kashmir were hailed as instrumental in driving sustainable development and improving the lives of the region’s residents.
As both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the SDGs, the meeting underscored the importance of continued collaboration and partnership in realizing a future of prosperity and well-being for the people of Azad Kashmir.
