Taipei Rocked by Deadly 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake: Buildings Collapse, Tsunami Warnings Issued in Japan and Philippines

Taipei (NNP) Severe earthquake tremors were felt in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, many buildings collapsed while there are fears of casualties, tsunami warnings were issued in Japan and the Philippines after the earthquake.

According to the news agency AFP, the earthquake occurred at 8 am local time. The American Geological Center says that a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Taiwan this morning near the east coast of Taiwan, while the depth was recorded at 18 kilometers.

Tsunami warnings were issued in the Philippines, including Taiwan and Japan, after the massive earthquake.

Authorities in Taiwan issued a tsunami warning via text message, “alerting people in coastal areas to be alert and take extreme caution, and also warn of the dangers posed by sudden surges of waves.”

Initially, the tremors were felt throughout Taiwan, but the aftershocks made the situation very serious.

According to preliminary reports, many buildings collapsed as a result of the earthquake.

After the earthquake, many areas of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, lost power, people are facing difficulties, citizens came out of their houses in fear due to the tremors of the earthquake, while many buildings were bent to one side.

Officials say the earthquake was the strongest to be felt on the island in decades, the most powerful in 25 years since the 1999 quake.
