Islamabad: Senior Parliamentarian and former Minister of Tourism and Transport, Muhammad Tahir Khokhar, has urged the government to prioritize youth employment and industrial development in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to secure the state’s economic future.
In a statement to the media, Mr. Khokhar emphasized the urgent need to establish industries in AJK, highlighting that educated youth should not be left to wander with degrees in hand but rather be provided with opportunities to contribute to the state’s progress. “Youth have the potential to change the destiny of the state, and their energy and talents must not be wasted,” he said.
Mr. Khokhar criticized the focus of the ruling class on superficial issues such as broken pipes and streets, urging them to instead address fundamental concerns like employment, industry, and the youth’s future. He stressed that robust industrialization could help the youth become self-reliant, boost the state’s economy, and reduce unemployment.
He further called on the government to introduce self-employment schemes and leverage AJK’s strengths in tourism, hydropower, and industry to create sustainable development. “By concentrating efforts on these sectors, AJK can achieve self-sufficiency, provide employment to the youth, and encourage entrepreneurship,” Mr. Khokhar stated.
The parliamentarian warned that the lack of a clear vision for the youth leads to frustration and brain drain, as many talented individuals leave the country for better opportunities. He urged the government and its institutions to take practical steps to ensure the youth are equipped with the tools they need to thrive within the state.
“Azad Kashmir’s youth have the passion and skills to transform the state, but their potential is being wasted. The government must act now to save their future and the future of the state,” Mr. Khokhar concluded.
