Islambad (NNP) In a strategic move ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Selection Committee has unveiled its reasoning behind the inclusion of Hasan Ali and the omission of Usama Mir from the upcoming T20 series against Ireland and England.
Selection Committee member Wahab Riaz shed light on the decision-making process, emphasizing Hasan Ali’s pre-existing involvement in county cricket, which aligns with Pakistan’s plans for the T20 World Cup. Hasan Ali serves as the backup for Haris Rauf, whose availability until the England series remains uncertain due to fitness concerns.
“We have delayed announcing the World Cup squad to assess the fitness of one or two players,” stated Wahab Riaz. The Committee aims to ensure the readiness of key players before finalizing the squad for the prestigious tournament.
Highlighting the importance of diversity in the bowling attack, Wahab Riaz emphasized the inclusion of Abrar Ahmed over Usama Mir, citing the presence of Shadab Khan as the primary spinner. “We don’t want repetitive bowlers; hence, we opted for a mystery spinner in Abrar,” he explained.
The Committee’s meticulous approach underscores their commitment to assembling a well-rounded squad capable of competing at the highest level. With Hasan Ali’s recall and strategic selections aimed at enhancing bowling variety, Pakistan aims to make a formidable challenge for the T20 World Cup title.
