Pakistan People Party 56th Foundation Day (By Khalid Sheikh)

On the occasion of its 56th Foundation Day, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) proudly reiterates its unwavering dedication to upholding its founding principles and working towards the advancement of Pakistan as a democratic, progressive, and prosperous nation.

Since its inception in 1967 by the visionary leader Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the PPP has been a stalwart advocate for the rights of the underprivileged, laborers, farmers, and marginalized communities. Embracing the principles of ‘Islam as our religion, socialism as our economy, democracy as our politics, and the people as the source of power,’ alongside the rallying cry of ‘Rotti Kapra Makan’ (Bread, Clothing, and Shelter), the party has resonated deeply with the populace, becoming the largest political force in Pakistan.

Under the charismatic leadership of Shaheed Bhutto, the PPP embarked on a transformative journey during its initial governance. It unified the nation, facilitated the passage of the 1973 Constitution, hosted the Islamic Summit Conference, initiated Pakistan’s nuclear program, introduced crucial reforms including land reforms and universal suffrage, and empowered the disenfranchised.

The progressive agenda continued under the leadership of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who fearlessly confronted dictatorships and championed measures for the upliftment of the underprivileged.

Building upon the legacies of Shaheed Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, as President, steered the nation through turbulent times. His tenure witnessed the restoration of democracy, economic stabilization, and the implementation of landmark programs such as the Benazir Income Support Program and Wasila Haq, which empowered millions.

Throughout its governance, the PPP has been pivotal in stabilizing the national economy. Despite daunting global oil prices during its tenure (2008-2013), the party managed to curtail inflation significantly from 20.69% to 7.69%, showcasing its resilience in economic management.

Under the dynamic leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP aims to further stabilize and foster prosperity in the economy. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is resolute in his commitment to building upon the party’s legacy by doubling salaries within five years, providing interest-free loans, and securing land ownership rights for marginalized families.

During the PPP’s tenure from 2008-2013, Pakistan experienced remarkable economic growth, with GDP reaching 4.4%, an 86% increase in gross national product, significant stock market growth, and agricultural transformation from a net importer to an exporter.

The PPP’s ideological commitment to investing in the welfare of the underprivileged remains its cornerstone. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision and determination are poised to continue the party’s legacy, ushering in an era of economic stability and inclusive growth.
