Lahore:Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has elected its inaugural female president, marking a significant milestone in the governing body’s history. Shehla Raza, a prominent senior leader and lawmaker of the Pakistan Peoples Party, secured the presidency unanimously during a meeting held in Karachi. Raza brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as the vice president of the PHF.
The transition in leadership comes on the heels of Khalid Sajjad Khokhar’s resignation from the embattled federation after an eight-year tenure and Pakistan men’s team’s failure to qualify for yet another Olympic Games.
Recent scrutiny of the PHF’s administration reveals a tumultuous landscape marred by financial crises, resulting in the non-payment of allowances and contract salaries to players and coaches. Khokhar tendered his resignation in February, following the nomination of Tariq Bugti as the hockey chief by caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar.
