Murree Moves Toward ‘Safe City’: Tenancy System Goes Fully Digital, Airbnb Included
MURREE / RAWALPINDI (February 25, 2026):In a significant move to ensure the security of tourists, local residents, and the business community, District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Raza Tanveer Sipra, has issued directives for the 100% implementation of the Punjab Information of Temporary Residents Act (Tenancy Act). Under the newly launched “Accommodation Monitoring Drive,” the record of all occupants in hotels, guest houses, flats, apartments, and units rented through Airbnb and other online platforms will be fully digitalized.Property owners and managers have been granted a two-week deadline to complete the registration process. The initiative aims to guarantee peace and order through “Destination Identification” while ensuring the sanctity and security of every household and lodging unit in Murree.In an official statement, DPO Murree Dr.Raza Tanveer emphasized that Murree is a global tourist destination that hosts a massive influx of visitors during peak seasons.
He stated that keeping modern requirements in mind, registration is no longer limited to traditional hotels; it is now mandatory for all private houses and apartments being rented via online platforms. To facilitate this, owners and administrators will be integrated into the ‘Hotel Eye’ software, allowing guest data to be transmitted to the police in real-time.The DPO further warned that upon the expiry of the 14-day deadline, strict legal action and FIRs will be registered against non-compliant owners under the Tenancy Act without discrimination. All Station House Officers (SHOs) in the district have been tasked with ensuring 100% verification of tenants in their respective jurisdictions to ensure no non-local individual remains off the police record.Dr. RazaTanveer appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the police in making Murree a “Safe City” by ensuring timely registration. He reaffirmed that Murree Police will continue to utilize cutting-edge technology to safeguard the lives and property of the public.
