Mardan: The greatest challenge for the poor and middle class is securing permanent employment, as they continue to suffer under the weight of inflation, unemployment, and deprivation. These views were expressed by Hassan Hassas, Program Manager of Labour Education Organization (LEO), while addressing a dignified ceremony.
During the event, deserving individuals were provided with handcarts stocked with essential items, aimed at guiding them toward financial independence. Hassan Hassas stated that millions of people in Pakistan spend their entire lives struggling to obtain just two meals a day and basic necessities. In such circumstances, permanent employment is the only real support that can help lift them out of poverty.
LEO’s Chief Executive Officer, Erum Atiya, was also present at the event. She explained that with the collaboration of Muslim Charity, LEO provided dozens of deserving families across various areas of Mardan with financial assistance in the form of livelihood tools, enabling them to start small businesses or expand existing ones.
She further highlighted that many households in Mardan are headed by women, as the male members are unable to fulfill the role of breadwinners. However, in a conservative society, efforts are often made to deprive women of opportunities for social, economic, and community development — which is a major obstacle. “Our goal is to empower such women so they can live a dignified and independent life,” she added.
Erum Atiya praised Muslim Charity for bringing about an economic and social revolution in the lives of hardworking and underprivileged people in Mardan through employment-based support.
