Islamabad, (August 7, 2024) Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ministry of IT &Telecom and GSM Association (GSMA) successfully launched Digital Nation Pakistan Initiative in the Digital Nation Summit 2024 in Islamabad today. The event brought together key stakeholders to formally accelerate the process of digital transformation in Pakistan.
Digital Nation Summit is GSMA’s initiative that facilitates the most important industry discussions, cultivates regional engagement and advances the impact of mobile technology for the development of sustainable and inclusive digital nations.
PTA and the MoIT&T also launched the implementation of Pakistan’s first-ever of Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy. The strategy aims to empower women in the digital space, bridging the gender gap and fostering equal opportunities in the tech industry.
Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives presided over the summit. In his remarks he emphasized on embracing digitalization and ensuring equal access for all as the government is laying the foundation for sustainable future. He commends the efforts of the PTA, GSMA and all stakeholders involved in this significant initiative.
During her address, Minister of State for IT&T, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted the comprehensive measures being taken under the Prime Minister’s direction to ensure digital transformation across the country.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, said that in collaboration with relevant stakeholders we will continue to drive sector for enhanced connectivity by offering advanced technologies and services to the people of Pakistan. Chairman PTA also presented the Pakistan’s first-ever Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy for its implementation to the Government of Pakistan at the Summit.
In his address, Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific, GSMA stated that Pakistan is on the cusp of a digital revolution, and events like the Digital Nation Summit are critical in shaping the future of the nation’s ICT landscape. He ensured GSMA’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s digital ambitions and benefits of connectivity and technology for all.
