Rawalpindi- In a significant move, Bilal Izzat Naqvi, Secretary General of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalist Workers (RIUJ Workers), has voiced wholehearted support for the recent decision by Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, to ban all New Year celebrations in the country. The ban is a symbolic expression of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people facing a dire situation.
Prime Minister Kakar, in a televised address, called on the nation to stand united in support of the oppressed people of Gaza, urging simplicity in New Year observances. He highlighted the collective grief felt by Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah, particularly emphasizing the tragic loss of innocent lives in Palestine due to the actions of Israeli forces.
Syed Bilal Izzat Naqvi, in his statement, lauded Prime Minister Kakar’s decision and emphasized the importance of unity and compassion during these challenging times. Naqvi stated, “In light of the heartbreaking developments in Palestine, Prime Minister Kakar’s directive to halt New Year celebrations reflects the deep empathy and concern of the Pakistani government and its people for the plight of the oppressed Palestinians.”
During his address, Prime Minister Kakar shared alarming statistics, revealing that since October 7, 2023, over 21,000 innocent Palestinians, including a significant number of children, have lost their lives due to the brutal actions of Israeli forces. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights of Palestinians and pledged to continue doing so in the future.
Mr. Naqvi further commented, “The humanitarian crisis in Palestine is a matter of great distress, and it is heartening to see our government taking a principled stance to raise its voice for justice and peace on the international stage. We stand united in our commitment to support the Palestinian cause and condemn the violence inflicted upon them.
“Prime Minister Kakar also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to assist the Palestinian people, including the dispatch of two consignments of relief goods, with a third on the way.
