Indonesia–Pakistan Pledge to Deepen Economic Partnership, Advance PTA to CEPA

On 19 January 2026, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia and Pakistan’s Minister of Trade held a bilateral meeting to follow up on the State Visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Islamabad in December 2025 and the visit of Pakistan’s Deputy Minister of Commerce to Karachi in January 2026.The meeting underscored the strong momentum in Indonesia–Pakistan economic relations, with both sides exchanging views on expanding cooperation in key sectors including agriculture, industry, mining, and investment. Discussions also focused on optimizing existing cooperation frameworks, particularly the D-8, to unlock tangible trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.Indonesia and Pakistan reaffirmed their joint commitment to further strengthen bilateral trade ties, notably by accelerating the transition from the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), as a strategic move toward a more dynamic, resilient, and future-oriented economic partnership.
