Inaugural Briefing Session of the Pakistan–Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group

NNPakistan – August 7, 2025 Islamabad  The inaugural briefing session of the Pakistan–Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) was convened today at Parliament House, Islamabad, under the convenership of MNA Shaista Khan.

 

 

The session was attended by Members of the Friendship Group, including Rana Mubashar Iqbal, Raja Osama Sarwar, Mr. Khurram Shahzad Virk, Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, Ms. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, Ms. Sabheen Ghoury, Kiran Imran Dar, Ms. Akhtar Bibi, Isphanyar M. Bhandara, and the Members of special invite of the Hon. Convener, Mr. Syed Rafiullah and Mr. Salahuddin Junejo.The meeting featured comprehensive briefings by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Maldives and senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce. The briefings encompassed a comprehensive overview of various subjects, including the current state of bilateral relations, opportunities for trade and investment, as well as matters pertaining to the establishment of direct flight routes, start ferry services and enhance tourism.
Ms. Shaista Khan, Convener Pakistan- Maldives PFG proposed the establishment of a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Maldives Parliament to institutionalize bilateral engagement. She also emphasized the need to enhance Government to Government contacts, promote cultural exchanges, tourism and deepen parliamentary cooperation.
Members of the Group reiterated their commitment to advancing Pakistan–Maldives relations and expressed full support for the initiatives undertaken by Pakistan’s diplomatic missions. They also endorsed the development of formal communication mechanisms with the Parliament of Maldives to further strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue and collaboration.
