Government Appoints Chairman of Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority
Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has appointed Mr. Zia Hussain Shah as the Chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) for four years from February 16, 2026.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Zia served as Member (Executive) of PNRA. He brings extensive experience in nuclear safety, radiation protection, and regulatory affairs. Over the course of his more than thirty years of professional experience, he has held key technical and leadership positions and contributed significantly to strengthening nuclear safety standards and regulatory oversight in Pakistan. He has extensive international experience with strong expertise in regulatory support to countries embarking on nuclear power program and leading international peer review missions for effective regulatory infrastructure development.
As Chairman, Mr. Zia Hussain Shah will uphold PNRA mission to ensure the safe operation of nuclear installations, and radiation facilities to protect workers, the public, and the environment from harmful effects of ionizing radiation, and the stature for international best practices in nuclear regulation.
The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority is responsible for regulating nuclear safety and radiation protection in the country to ensure the safe and secure use of nuclear technology.
