Former Caretaker PM Denies Corruption Allegations in Wheat Import: Stresses Cheap Bread for Pakistanis

Posted on May 6, 2024 by News Desk

Islambad (NNP) Former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar vehemently denied accusations of corruption in the wheat import process during his tenure. Speaking on a Hum News program, Kakar emphasized the necessity of importing wheat to ensure affordable bread for the people of Pakistan. He highlighted that while there was a gap between wheat supply and demand, the excess was minimal, refuting claims of a crisis. Kakar defended the decision to allow the private sector to import wheat, citing it as a cost-saving measure for the government. He criticized the double standard of criticizing imports for essential goods while ignoring the benefits they bring to the common people. Kakar expressed readiness to cooperate with any investigation committee, reiterating his commitment to transparent governance. He urged for a fair assessment of their efforts, which he claimed had reduced inflation and provided cheap bread to millions of consumers. Despite facing backlash, Kakar remained steadfast in his belief that prioritizing the welfare of the Pakistani people justified the decisions made during his tenure.
