Honorable Federal Minister of Information Murtaza Solangi has said that speculations regarding elections should be avoided.
While holding a press conference in Islamabad, Murtaza Solangi said that representatives of foreign media are already in Pakistan to cover the elections.
He said that many journalists from foreign countries have applied for visas, 49 visas have been issued to observers and foreign journalists, while the process of granting visas to 32 applications is ongoing.
Murtaza Solangi said that about 24 applications for permits are in process from Pakistan High Commission New Delhi, a total of 174 applications have been received from various media organizations, 25 applications from UK alone are in process in non-journalistic category.
He further informed that 8 applications from Russia, 13 from Japan are in process, 5 members of Parliament from Canada have applied, 5 applications from Commonwealth are in process.
The Caretaker Federal Information Minister said that international journalists and observers are taking permits for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, apart from these 3 cities, if any foreign journalist wants to go to any other city, it will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
He said that despite the January 20 deadline, they are still looking at the applications, applications were received from 14 countries, it is the responsibility of the state to protect its citizens.
