Federal Government Appoints Ghulam Nabi Memon as Inspector General of Sindh

Karachi (NNP) The federal government has appointed Ghulam Nabi Memon as the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh. According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, Ghulam Nabi Memon, a grade 21 officer of the Pakistan Police Service, has been transferred and posted as the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) of Sindh with immediate effect, following the approval of the federal government.

Ghulam Nabi Memon, who is currently serving as the Executive Director of State Life Insurance Corporation under the Commerce Division, will now take on the crucial role of overseeing law enforcement in the province of Sindh.

The notification cited Section 10 of the Civil Service Act, 1973 as the basis for Ghulam Nabi Memon’s transfer, emphasizing its immediate implementation.

This appointment marks Ghulam Nabi Memon’s return to the position of IG Sindh, having previously served in the role. Notably, he assumed the responsibilities of IG during the tenure of the caretaker provincial government, before being transferred once again, with Rifat Mukhtar taking over as IG of the province on 19 August 2023.

Ghulam Nabi Memon’s reappointment as IG of Sindh follows his initial appointment by the previous Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) provincial government in June 2022. Earlier, the Sindh High Court had issued an order for the release of Acting IG Dr. Kamran Fazal, despite a court directive. Dr. Kamran Fazal was directed to resign from his position due to his failure to comply with the court’s orders.

With Ghulam Nabi Memon at the helm, the province of Sindh can expect renewed efforts in maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
