Djokovic Sets Sights on Olympic Gold to Cement GOAT Status

Renowned tennis commentator Nick Lester believes that Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, is gearing up to prioritize winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics this year in pursuit of solidifying his title as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in tennis.

According to Lester, Djokovic, despite his remarkable career achievements, is yet to clinch an Olympic gold medal, an accolade held by his contemporaries such as Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Lester emphasized that Djokovic is determined to fill this gap in his illustrious career by triumphing in the tennis event at Roland Garros in Paris.

Lester stated, “For me, the Olympic gold medal is massive for him this year and he will set his sights on that one big target. It is the only thing that’s missing from his CV and he will tailor everything around that. When you have achieved everything and only one final prize is missing, it would make sense to make it your priority.”

Despite Djokovic’s recent loss in the Australian Open semi-finals, Lester cautioned against prematurely assessing a decline in Djokovic’s dominance in men’s tennis. He suggested that Djokovic may have faced physical challenges during the tournament, potentially impacting his performance.

“From what I heard in Melbourne, he wasn’t particularly well out there,” Lester stated. “Maybe that led to him not being quite as engaged as he had been in previous years.”

Lester acknowledged Djokovic’s unprecedented accomplishments at his age but speculated that his unmatched motivation might diminish over time.
