CBD PUNJAB RESOLVES FOUR-DECADES-OLD ISSUE, HANDS OVER STATE-OF-THE-ART WALTON ROAD PROJECT TO WCB

Lahore:The Punjab Central Business District Development Authourity (PCBDDA), also known as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), has officially handed over the completed Remodeling & Upgradation of Ada Nullah and Walton Road project, including the strategically important Major Ishaq Shaheed Flyover, to the Walton Cantonment Board (WCB).The formal handover took place following a joint inspection and site visit conducted by officials of CBD Punjab and the Walton Cantonment Board. Upon completion of all procedural requirements, the project was formally transferred, with WCB assuming full responsibility for the operation, maintenance and future management of the upgraded infrastructure.Implemented by CBD Punjab at a total project cost of PKR 10.2 billion, the initiative stands as a major milestone in Lahore’s urban infrastructure development. Designed to resolve decades-old drainage challenges and chronic traffic congestion along Walton Road and its adjoining areas, the project has significantly enhanced road capacity, improved storm-water management, and strengthened the overall resilience of the urban corridor.The upgraded Walton Road and Major Ishaq Shaheed Flyover now capable of accommodating an estimated 700,000 to 800,000 vehicles per day, ensuring smoother traffic flow and reduced travel time for daily commuters. In addition to improving mobility, the project has played a vital role in uplifting the quality of life for more than one million residents of Walton by providing safer roads, improved accessibility, and effective mitigation of urban flooding risks.Expressing satisfaction over the successful completion and handover, Chief Executive Officer CBD Punjab, Imran Amin, stated, “This project represents a comprehensive engineering solution that integrates road upgradation, improved drainage systems, and modern traffic management.
