Arif Habib welcomes Fauji Fertilizer as partner in PIA revival make a new words lead
Islamabad : In a decisive moment for Pakistan’s aviation sector, the Arif Habib Consortium has taken control of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), pledging a fresh start for the struggling national carrier. Strengthened by the inclusion of Fauji Fertilizer Company as a strategic partner, the new management has outlined an ambitious revival plan.
The consortium plans to invest Rs125 billion over the next year to modernize operations and expand PIA’s fleet from 18 to 62 aircraft, with a focus on improving passenger experience and empowering employees. Officials say the partnership will fast-track restructuring and restore confidence in the airline.
Acquired through a landmark Rs135 billion privatisation deal, the takeover marks Pakistan’s first major large-scale privatisation in nearly two decades. Analysts view the move as a turning point, signaling renewed investor confidence and fresh hope for PIA’s return as a strong national carrier.
