ISLAMABAD (NNP) The Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) has announced its new leadership for the upcoming term, with young sports journalist Abu Bakar Bin Talat elected unopposed as President. Syed Arsalan Shirazi has been elected General Secretary, while Nasir Abbas Naqvi will serve as Finance Secretary.
The election process was overseen by a three-member election committee, headed by Shehryar Khan, with Asim Jilani and Rana Farhan Aslam as members. A total of 59 members unanimously backed a proposed panel, resulting in the unopposed election of all major office bearers.
Other key positions include Zulfiqar Baig as Senior Vice President; Aqeel Anjum and Asghar Ali Mubarak as Vice Presidents; and Hafiz Obaidur Rehman and Asim Riaz as Joint Secretaries. The newly formed executive body comprises Faheem Anwar Khan, Afzal Javed, Zahid Farooq Malik, Nasir Aslam Raja, Zeeshan Qayyum, Sohail Raja, Arfa Feroz Zaki, Kiran Khan, Owais Abbasi, and Farhan Jafri.
Veteran sports journalist Abdul Muhi Shah will serve as Patron of RISJA, while Malik Shakeel Awan has been named Chairman.
President Abu Bakar Bin Talat and General Secretary Arsalan Shirazi thanked the association’s members for their trust and vowed to continue regular activities and advocate for the rights of genuine sports journalists.
National Press Club President Azhar Jatoi, Secretary Shiraz Gardezi, Finance Secretary Waqar Abbasi, and RIUJ President Tariq Virk, among others, extended their congratulations to the newly elected body and expressed confidence in its ability to serve the journalist community effectively.
Established in 1986, RISJA remains the only registered body representing sports journalists in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad region, working for the development of sports journalism and the welfare of its members.
