Islamabad: A meeting of the Board of Directors of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Organization was held at Jammu and Kashmir House under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhry Anwar Haq. Senior Most Minister Colonel (Retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor, Government Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Rasheed, Additional Chief Secretary Development Ms. Madhat Shehzad, Principal Secretary Zafar Mehmood Khan, Senior Member Board of Revenue Dr. Liaqat Hussain, Law Secretary Muhammad Idris Abbasi and Managing Director were present in the meeting. Apart from PDO, senior officers of the department participated. Secretary Energy and Water Resources Irshad Ahmed Qureshi gave a detailed briefing to the participants regarding the performance of Power Development Organization, budget and ongoing and completed projects of hydel power. On this occasion, Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar Haq said that along with tourism, health, education, road infrastructure, hydel power sector is an important sector in Azad Kashmir. Azad Kashmir has a lot of potential for hydel power. The government is paying special attention to this sector. The Prime Minister said that with the completion of Hydel projects, where the production of electricity will increase in the state, employment opportunities will also be available to the people. He said that the government is taking steps on priority basis to work on new projects to increase the maximum production of electricity. The Prime Minister said that funds are being given for the welfare projects of the people. Funds have been doubled where there are projects of public need. Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir directed the concerned authorities to prepare hydel power projects under short term and long term planning. This will increase the revenue of the state and create employment opportunities for the people.
