Karachi (NNP) The Vision for Education Foundation, a leading advocate for ophthalmic health since 2018, recently conducted a free eye screening camp at Darul Sukun, Home for Children with Special Needs. This initiative is part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to prevent blindness and promote early detection of eye conditions among vulnerable populations.
According to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), the number of blind individuals in Pakistan reached approximately 1.88 million in 2020, with a prevalence rate of 0.9% in the overall population. The foundation aims to combat this growing issue by focusing on the prevention of preventable blindness, particularly through early identification and treatment of eye disorders in children.
During the camp, the foundation’s team screened 69 children with special needs, identifying various eye disorders that required attention. This effort is in line with Vision for Education Foundation’s mission to enhance eye health across diverse communities. Since its inception, the foundation has performed 252,170 eye screenings and facilitated 1,190 corneal transplantations, significantly improving the lives of many individuals.
The Vision for Education Foundation continues to extend its services beyond schools to rehabilitation centers, special education facilities, old age homes, prisons, and other community settings. By providing these essential eye care services, the foundation is making a meaningful difference in the lives of countless people.
