Islamabad: (NNP) In celebration of International Girls in ICT Day 2024 , the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) joined hands with the Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education (PAGE) & The Inclusion Lab (TIL) by signing Non-Binding Cooperation Agreements for Digital Gender Inclusion across Pakistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Maj Gen Hafeez Ur Rehman (R), Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to providing access and availability of broadband for a more digitally inclusive society where women and girls are benefiting from meaningful connectivity. Head of Gender Inclusion Committee -Director Wireless Licensing PTA appreciated participating organizations for collaborating with PTA for training women and girls in digital skills and entrepreneurship trainings, financial inclusion , online safety of women and most importantly creating awareness and advocacy for onboarding unconnected women in Pakistan.
Executive Director of PAGE, echoed the sentiment, expressing excitement about the initiative’s potential: “Partnering with PTA allows us to equip girls with essential digital skills, positioning them to excel in the 21st-century economy and fully engage in society.”
CEO TIL marked this collaboration a transformative step and emphasized on the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in achieving gender equality in the tech sector, to pave the way for women to emerge as leaders and innovators in the digital age.
Also present at the signing ceremony were telecom operators/manufacturers – Ericson, Huawei, Wateen, Cybernet, Nayatel & TWA which underscores the private sector’s commitment to providing support to PTA and partner organizations for narrowing the digital gender gap in Pakistan.
