(London) Speaking with the press Barrister Nawab Babar Khan has stated that the fundamental human rights of women should be respected and upheld in developing countries. Women should have inter alia the right to education, right to employment, right to inheritance, right to divorce and other basic human rights. Education is extremely important for the emancipation of women. Women should come forward inter alia as Teachers, Lawyers, Journalists, Soldiers, Police Officers, Politicians, Pilots, in developing countries. Laws should be enacted and implemented in developing countries so as to protect the fundamental human rights of women.
Barrister Nawab Babar Khan said that progress as regards the rights of women is vital for the well being of any country. The first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was Margaret Thatcher also known as the “iron lady”. The iron lady ensured the liberation of the falkland islands from Argentine aggression. The first female prime minister of a muslim state was the late Benazir Bhutto. This was a great achievement in the muslim world. At present a female Chief Minister, namely, Maryam Nawaz has been elected in Pakistan. This again is a great achievement in a male dominated society.
Barrister Nawab Babar Khan also stated that in 1893 New Zealand became the first country to grant women the right to vote. Throughout history women have played important roles. During the first and second world war British women contributed significantly to the war effort with equal passion, skill, determination and bravery in comparison to men.
Barrister Nawab Babar Khan said that women in the developed world have achieved great sucess due to liberal thinking, just and fair laws, and the development and establishment of human rights. Men and women are equal in every sense and thus should be treated equally by society as regards all aspects.
Barrister Nawab Babar Khan stated that the old concept and belief that a woman bases her judgement on emotions has been disproved. The world of man is full of wars, destruction, greed and lust for power. This has always been the case but the methods have been different. Global warming is increasing, poverty has not decreased, wars are taking the lives of innocent people throughout many places in the world. The world of ideals, equality and fair-play is remote.
Barrister Nawab Babar Khan said that the fundamental human rights of women should not be swept under the carpet with the broomstick of ignorance.
