Lahore () Shane Watson could not become the most expensive coach of Pakistan despite being offered a monthly salary of more than four crore rupees (equivalent to two million dollars per year). However, he managed to achieve this honor to some extent during the PSL. According to sources, Quetta Gladiators paid him a fee of $150,000. In Pakistani rupees, this amount is about 4 crore 20 lakh rupees.
During the event, Shane Watson stayed in Pakistan for 28 days and thus earned a daily fee of Rs 15 lakh. Despite this, there was no positive change in the performance of the team. Although they managed to reach the playoffs, they suffered a crushing defeat in the first match. Furthermore, questions were raised about Watson’s coaching style as he conceded several issues.
It is highly unlikely that he will be the head coach of Quetta Gladiators in PSL next year as well. Former West Indies star Vivian Richards used to receive up to $100,000 as the patron of Quetta Gladiators in the past, but his remuneration was reduced to $75,000 after Covid. Former coach and current team director Moin Khan initially had a $50,000 contract. They received an additional $10,000 per match for reaching the playoffs and then the finals. Team owner Nadeem Umar has always had a good reputation for paying his dues to players and coaches.
