Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari, Co-Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has secured his second term as President of Pakistan with a resounding victory in the recent elections. Polling took place in the national and four provincial assemblies to elect the country’s 14th president.
In the National Assembly, presided over by Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court, Senator Sherry Rehman served as the polling agent for Asif Ali Zardari, while Senator Shafique Tareen represented Mehmood Khan Achakzai. Zardari garnered 255 votes, while Achakzai received 119 votes from the Senate and National Assembly combined.
Zardari further solidified his victory with 246 votes from the Punjab Assembly, compared to Achakzai’s 100 votes. In the Sindh Assembly, Zardari secured 151 votes, leaving Achakzai with just 9 votes. The Balochistan Assembly saw Zardari receiving 47 votes, with Achakzai failing to garner any support. From the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Achakzai obtained 91 votes, while Zardari secured 17 votes, with one vote being rejected.
Zardari’s landslide victory underscores his continued political influence and support across various regions of Pakistan.
